Mirjam Manusama (1991, The Netherlands) is a multidisciplinary artist living between Bali, Indonesia and the Netherlands working across fashion, art, and tattoo. Her practice explores identity, transformation and the layered nature of human experience; translating inner worlds into tangible form.

Established in Rotterdam in 2015, her practice has evolved through multiple phases while remaining rooted in a consistent core philosophy. In 2020, she expanded her vision under the avant-garde label Manusama Nuance "Daring shells for introverts", Manusama Nuance got invited for the New York Fashion Week in 2020.

In 2026, she returned to working under her own name, embracing a more fluid, artisanal, and multidisciplinary approach; creating as who she is, rather than within fixed disciplines.

Constantly shifting emotions and multiple identities shape who we are, and Mirjam’s work reflects this fluidity.

Her foundation was shaped early in life through her childhood education at the Vrije School in Middelburg, rooted in Rudolf Steiner philosophy. Followed by fashion tailoring and design studies at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. From an early stage, she felt the urge to move beyond rigid structures, developing a practice that unites high-end garments, drawings, spiritual awareness, and craftsmanship into a singular visual language.

As a fashion designer, Mirjam is known for her draperies and asymmetric costumes. Her garments are built in layers, mirroring the complexity of the human experience, while asymmetry becomes a tool to explore balance between the physical body and the inner self. Through this interplay, her work reflects continuity, transformation and the ever-evolving, multifaceted nature of who we are.

Mirjam Manusama has been creating costumes for dancers and theatre productions for over a decade, and continues to work as the costume designer of Amenti.
Responding intuitively to movement and embodiment, her designs explore the relationship between the body, form, and expression. This has led to a distinctive and ambiguous approach to conceptual silhouettes, reimagining the human body in motion while inviting multiple interpretations and layered meanings.

With over 13 years of experience in tailoring and more than 8 years in her art practice, her work is deeply rooted in craftsmanship as a form of storytelling. She is involved in every stage of creation; from concept, pattern making and sewing to drawing and tattooing. This hands-on approach allows her to translate stories into form with precision, sensitivity, and depth.

Alongside fashion, her drawings evolved into tools for reflection and healing. From there on she teaches the process of healing through art in her drawing workshop, driven from the process of self-expression, awareness and transformation.

Driven by a fascination with duality, consciousness, ancestry and the human experience, her work explores the layers we consist of; body, mind and soul. Inspired by subtle details and the unseen, her practice seeks to connect inner and outer worlds. Creating from intuition and awareness rather than trends, she continuously aims to make the invisible visible and to dive into the unknown.

At the core of her mission lies accessibility: empowering individuals to embrace their unique selves and inviting everyone to partake on a journey of creative expression.
