The End of a New Beginning is a hand-drawn art series in black fine liner, created by Mirjam Manusama for her exhibition at Museum Maluku in The Hague (2022).
Deeply inspired by her Moluccan–Indonesian heritage, the series reflects on themes of ancestry, memory, identity and transformation; elements that continue to play an important role in her creative practice.
The works explore the connection between past, present and future. Rooted in both personal and collective histories, the series becomes a reflection on remembrance, evolution and the emotional tension between endings and new beginnings.
The End of a New Beginning creates a visual dialogue between generations; honoring the stories, struggles, victories and transformations that continue to shape who we are.

Martha Christina Tiahahu
Martha Christina, born in a small village of Abubu, Nusalaut, was a brave young Moluccan freedom fighter
who fought with her father against colonizers of the Dutch era.
Inspired by her courage, ‘Liberty of death’ we carry on her spirit and keep it alive through all generations.
